Kaleidoscope is a piece written for a virtual ensemble including strings, keyboard instruments, marimba and harp. In this recording the performances were produced by the composer.

The music is influenced by early minimalism. Although Malcolm Galloway performs as a rock musician/vocalist with his band Hats Off Gentlemen It's Adequate, minimalism has been a longstanding major influence on his aesthetic as a musician, photographer, artist and film-maker.
